The meaning of WD-40 is pretty simple, Water Displacement 40th Formula.
I have to say I was disappointed to learn the meaning of WD-40. The blue can of gods gift to everything has always been a staple in every man’s garage. So how could it have such a weak meaning? Water Displacement 40th Formula? As the story goes on the WD-40 website Rocket Chemical Company and three employees were attempting to create a line of rust-prevention solvents and degreasers for use in the aerospace industry. On the 40th attempt to creating a workable formula they came up with WD-40
Not that WD-40′s story is not valid, but I question if the 37th formula had been the right one would it be called WD-37? I tend to believe that at some point a marketing expert said, WD-40 rolls off the tongue a lot easier that WD-37, lets just change the name and make it our little secret.
Anyway, WD-40 has and always will be a true mans tool regardless if it means Water Displacement 40th Formula.
