A Game of Thrones written by George RR Martin, is actually a very difficult book to start. I thought the first fifty pages of the book were very difficult to follow, uninteresting, and dull. Then suddenly, boom, Martin opens it up and I found myself in one of the best fantasy books I have read in a long time.
He writes in a unique manner where each new chapter is written from the perspective of a different character—yet it is all in the first person. This allows Martin to continually change the perspective of the story and allows a different voice to carry the plot, but he continues to keep the characters extremely rich and the story very enjoyable.
George RR Martin and A Game of Thrones is a great book and start to what proves to be an exciting series. His unique style of writing and the thick subplots of the characters carry the story nicely. Get past the first hand full of pages and you will treat yourself an excellent read.
